Termite resistance

Naturally resistant to termites and fungal decay, making it reliable for ground-level and exterior installations.

High density & strength

One of the denser hardwoods we work with — holds up well under foot traffic, weight and repeated weather exposure.

Rich, warm tone

Deep red-brown color that deepens further with UV exposure over time, giving outdoor decking a distinctive warm patina.

Where We Use It

Decking, flooring and exposed structure

Merbau's density and weather resistance make it a frequent choice for outdoor decking, pool surrounds and high-traffic flooring in our prefab homes.

Frequently asked questions

What is merbau best used for?

Merbau's density and termite resistance make it a strong choice for decking, flooring and other high-traffic or structural applications exposed to repeated wear.

Does merbau stain surrounding surfaces?

Freshly installed merbau can release tannins that temporarily stain adjacent light-colored surfaces when wet, particularly during the first few rain exposures. This settles once the surface weathers and is standard for the species — our team can advise on installation details to manage it.

How does merbau compare to teak?

Merbau is denser and typically more cost-effective than teak, making it well suited to decking and flooring, while teak's finer grain and natural oils make it the preferred choice for furniture and fine joinery.
