Teak: the gold standard of tropical wood

Rich in natural oils that resist water, rot and insects, teak is the benchmark hardwood for tropical construction and fine furniture alike. Left untreated outdoors it develops a silvery-grey patina over time, or keeps its honey-brown tone with occasional oiling.

Natural weather resistance

High natural oil content repels moisture and deters insects without chemical treatment, making it reliable in humid, coastal and high-rainfall climates.

Dimensional stability

Tight, straight grain resists warping and cracking as humidity shifts — important for both structural framing and fitted furniture.

Fine finishing

Machines and finishes cleanly, taking oil or clear finishes well for furniture, joinery and feature carpentry.

Where We Use It

Structural framing to fine furniture

Because teak performs well both outdoors and in, we use it across structural frames, decking, window and door joinery, and our furniture collections — see it applied in our prefab homes and furniture & interiors.

Frequently asked questions

Why is teak used for both structure and furniture?

Teak's natural oils make it resistant to moisture, rot and insects without chemical treatment, while its tight, stable grain machines and finishes cleanly — so the same material performs as structural framing and as fine furniture.

Does teak need special maintenance outdoors?

Untreated, exterior teak naturally weathers to a silver-grey patina, which does not affect structural performance. Occasional oiling restores the original honey-brown tone if a maintained look is preferred.

Is the teak used by The Magic Wood sustainably sourced?

We source Indonesian teak through established regional suppliers. Ask our team for sourcing and certification details relevant to your project and destination country's import requirements.
